Are dog owners expected to walk people home?
K9WaTch will not be an escort service unless there are enough people involved who want to do that.  We are hoping that the simple act of strategically walking dogs will help deter crime.

How will it work?  Is it okay if I just walk my dog like I already do?
You can just walk your dog as you do normally.  We are encouraging dog owners to swing by the subway during your regularly scheduled walk. Maybe even go down and up the stairs with your dog.  If you feel like circling until a train arrives, that would be great, but you can always just walk home.  You’ve already done a great thing by showing that our neighborhood is on active watch.  If you choose to welcome subway riders you could gather everyone at the exit and help people pair off to travel home safely.  You can always walk someone home if you feel like it but it’s definitely not expected or required.

How can K9WaTch benefit my dog?
Some dogs who aren’t well socialized could benefit from pack walking with K9WaTch.  Charles at Sean Casey’s and Eileen from K9WaTch can tell folks more about the benefits of pack walking.

How will people know that I’m a part of K9WaTch?
K9WaTchers will have official bandanas, primarily sponsored by the lovely and talented Cynthia King. Putting this bandana on your dog will help neighbors identify friendly faces more easily.  You will receive this bandana after you’ve filled out the on-line application form (and after we’ve designed and ordered them – remember we just started on October 4th).

Can I be a part of K9WaTch if I don’t have a dog?
Yes!  Of course!  Some humans have volunteered to walk people home and will probably do so in pairs.  Most of the other non-dog-humans are working behind the scenes to make flyers, distribute flyers, speak at community events, build the website, answer e-mail, and screen volunteers.

Keep in mind that we will NOT launch without twenty dog walking/human pair volunteers.  We have three subway exits to focus on and we need a critical mass of interested individuals before we launch. Will you be the 11th volunteer?  It’s easy to sign up on our website.
